ISLAMABAD: Tuesday at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) an Olive Orchard was inaugurated here to promote olive fruit production in the country. To encourage academic research in the gardening and horticulture field, it is an extension of the University’s botanical garden. The AIOU’s Olive Orchard will act as a full-fledged nursery to provide academic support to agricultural science students. A suitable area has been allocated to its creation in the main campus and around 1,500 saplings have been planted, made available with funding from the National Olive Promotional Project.
While planting his sapling, the Vice Chancellor along with other University officers declared that the AIOU will be a helping hand to the government to grow the precious fruits like Olive.
The University will be a source of vast array of plants and will increase the university’s beauty and research environment.
